FIFA president Gianni Infantino has strongly defended the World Cup against its critics, accusing some detractors of “spreading hate” despite what he described as a successful and safe tournament.
“We experienced no violence, no incidents, 100% safety and security, only joy and happiness,” Infantino said while praising the organisation of the competition and the conduct of supporters.
His comments come amid ongoing debate over various aspects of the World Cup, including security, governance and broader criticism surrounding FIFA’s tournaments. Infantino insisted that the event demonstrated football’s ability to unite people and create a positive global atmosphere.
The FIFA chief said the tournament’s smooth operation and festive environment should be recognised rather than overshadowed by negative narratives. He argued that the overwhelming experience for fans and participants had been one of celebration and enjoyment.
