The United States has approved a potential $5 billion weapons sale to Saudi Arabia aimed at strengthening the kingdom’s air defence capabilities amid heightened tensions across the Middle East.
The US State Department said the proposed deal would enhance Saudi Arabia’s ability to protect its territory and counter regional threats.
The package is expected to support Riyadh’s air defence capabilities as concerns over escalating conflicts and missile and drone threats continue to grow across the region.
Washington’s approval comes as the United States deepens security cooperation with Saudi Arabia and other regional partners while tensions remain elevated.
The proposed sale still requires the completion of the relevant US arms-transfer process before the deal can be finalised.
