LAHORE: The Punjab Home Department has requested the deployment of Pakistan Army and Pakistan Rangers personnel to support security operations during Muharram-ul-Haram 2026.

According to officials, the request was forwarded to the Ministry of Interior after a recommendation from Punjab Police for additional manpower to ensure law and order across the province.

The province has sought a total of 137 security companies across 39 districts to manage processions and religious gatherings during the holy month.

This includes 61 companies from the Pakistan Army and 76 companies from Pakistan Rangers Punjab.

Officials said the request reflects the “prevailing security environment” and the need for a strong security framework to prevent any potential threats from militants or miscreants.

The Home Department said deployment plans cover major districts including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sheikhupura, Sargodha, Nankana Sahib and Attock, among others.

Authorities said the additional forces would support police in securing Muharram processions, majalis, and other religious gatherings held across the province.

Muharram is observed as one of the holiest months in Islam, with Ashura marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his companions in Karbala.

Security across Pakistan is traditionally tightened during the month, with thousands of personnel deployed nationwide to ensure public safety.
