The Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) killed five suspected terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in a border area near Attock.
According to a CTD spokesperson, the operation was launched after receiving intelligence that the militants were planning attacks in different parts of Punjab.
The suspects allegedly opened fire on law enforcement personnel during the raid, triggering an exchange of gunfire in which all five were killed.
Authorities said the slain militants were linked to Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by the state for members of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
A suicide jacket, three submachine guns, two hand grenades and ammunition were recovered from the site, while efforts to identify the suspects are under way.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif praised the operation, saying security forces, police and the CTD were achieving significant successes in the fight against terrorism.
