India has temporarily blocked access to Telegram ahead of the retest of the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), following a major controversy over a leaked question paper.
The restriction will remain in place until June 22, while Telegram’s message-editing feature will stay limited until June 30 to curb the spread of exam-related content.
Authorities said the move was taken after reports that cheating networks used Telegram channels to circulate leaked exam papers and coordinate fraud.
The NEET exam, taken by more than two million aspiring medical students, was cancelled in May after allegations that questions had been leaked before the test.
India’s Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested the alleged mastermind behind the leak, while the government has introduced additional measures to secure the retest.
The scandal has sparked nationwide criticism, student protests and renewed concerns over the integrity of India’s highly competitive examination system.
