Colombia national football team began their FIFA World Cup 2026 campaign with a 3-1 victory over debutants Uzbekistan in their Group K opener.
Colombia controlled large periods of the match and took the lead just before half-time through Daniel Muñoz after sustained pressure and a key assist from Luis Díaz.
Uzbekistan national football team responded strongly in the second half, equalising through Abbosbek Fayzullaev after capitalising on a rebound to score their first-ever World Cup goal.
However, Colombia quickly regained control, with Luis Díaz restoring the lead with a composed finish before adding further influence in attack. A late goal sealed the result and ensured a comfortable opening win for the South Americans.
Despite a spirited performance and moments of promise, Uzbekistan were unable to sustain their comeback against a more experienced Colombian side.
The result gives Colombia an early advantage in Group K as they aim to progress from the group stage.
