According to an official notification issued by the Director of the CTW, Waqar Ali will be responsible for maintaining discipline within the unit, ensuring operational readiness, and supervising the overall functioning of the SWAT team.
His responsibilities will also include monitoring official activities, assigning duties to team members, and overseeing raiding and operational missions conducted by the unit.
Officials said the new incharge will additionally supervise administrative affairs related to the Islamabad SWAT team, while ensuring the availability and management of weapons and other operational equipment.
The appointment comes after the FIA carried out a major restructuring of its Counter-Terrorism Department on May 7, 2026, following directives issued by the Director General FIA.
As part of the reorganization, new SWAT teams were established for major cities including Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta, and Peshawar to strengthen counter-terrorism and operational capabilities.
