Opposition Leader in the Senate Raja Nasir Abbas has filed a privilege motion against the SHO of Barakahu Police Station, alleging he was stopped from reaching his residence and treated disrespectfully at a police checkpoint.
In the motion submitted to Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, Abbas said the SHO refused to let him pass despite being informed that he was the Senate opposition leader and was travelling to his home in Islamabad.
He argued that the officer’s conduct amounted to a breach of parliamentary privilege and requested the matter be referred to the Senate Privileges Committee for disciplinary and legal action.
The motion follows an incident in which police stopped a delegation of opposition leaders from travelling to Azad Jammu and Kashmir to join a sit-in in Rawalakot.
