According to officials, many of the original names—some associated with Hindu, Jain, and colonial-era heritage—had been changed over the years and replaced with names reflecting Islamic, Pakistani, or local historical figures.

Under the approved plan, a number of well-known roads and areas will see their earlier names restored.

Queen’s Road, which was renamed Fatima Jinnah Road, is among those included in the proposed changes. Jail Road, later renamed Allama Iqbal Road, Davies Road (Sir Aga Khan Road), Lawrence Road (Bagh-i-Jinnah Road), and Empress Road (Shahrah-i-Abdul Hameed bin Badees) are also part of the list.

Other changes include Krishan Nagar being renamed Islampura, Santnagar becoming Sunnat Nagar, Dharampura changed to Mustafabad, Brandreth Road to Nishtar Road, and Temple Street to Hameed Nizami Road.

Laxmi Chowk, renamed Maulana Zafar Ali Khan Chowk, Jain Mandir Road, renamed Babri Masjid Chowk, Ram Gali turned into Rehman Gali, Kumharpura changed to Ghaziabad, and Outfall Road renamed Jeelani Road are also included.

A Punjab government official told that the decision was approved during a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The initiative aims to restore Lahore’s historical identity and reflect its cultural and architectural heritage, officials said.
