Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning about an intense heatwave expected across Punjab during the Eidul Azha holidays.

According to the authority, temperatures in many districts are likely to remain 4 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal levels. In cities including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, and Sialkot, temperatures may rise up to 42°C.

The PDMA said temperatures in Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, Sargodha, and Jhang could see temperatures reaching 50°C. Officials warned that extreme heat may continue even during nighttime hours.

Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities between 10am and 5pm and to drink plenty of water and fluids to prevent dehydration.

Director General PDMA Umar Javed advised people to wear light-colored cotton clothes and use caps or umbrellas while outdoors. He also urged parents and caregivers to keep children and elderly individuals indoors during peak heat hours.

The authority further advised travelers to check tyre pressure and radiator water levels before long journeys. Citizens were also encouraged to use water carefully and place water containers for birds and animals during the heatwave.

PDMA said butchers, cattle traders, sanitation workers, and livestock handlers should take extra precautions during Eid activities to avoid heat-related illnesses. Livestock owners were advised to keep animals hydrated and cool by sprinkling water on them regularly.

Authorities have also ordered drinking water and temporary shade arrangements at cattle markets during Eidul Azha. Medical and veterinary camps are being established at public places and cattle markets to handle emergencies involving both humans and animals.

PDMA urged citizens to contact helpline 1129 for emergency support or information related to the ongoing heatwave.
