Portugal entered the contest as favourites and enjoyed long spells of possession, but DR Congo matched them with determination and defensive discipline. The Portuguese side broke through to take the lead, only for DR Congo to respond with an equaliser and keep themselves firmly in the contest.
Both teams created opportunities to claim victory during an entertaining second half, with Portugal pushing forward in search of a winner while DR Congo threatened on the counterattack. However, neither side could find the decisive goal.
The result leaves Group K finely balanced, with Portugal disappointed not to secure all three points and DR Congo encouraged by a resilient performance against one of the tournament’s strongest teams.
