The Pakistan Cricket Board has announced a major overhaul of its central contracts system, replacing the traditional A, B, C and D categories with a format-specific model from 2026.
The new structure includes five tracks for players based on their primary format. The top-tier Track AB is for players who feature in both Test and ODI cricket.
Track A is reserved for Test specialists, while Track BC covers players focused on ODI and T20 cricket. Track C is designed for T20 and franchise cricket specialists, and Track D will serve as a development pathway for emerging talent.
PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi said the new system will provide greater clarity, accountability and clear career pathways for players.
The board said contracts will now be based on a player’s role and format responsibilities rather than a single grading system. A three-stage assessment process, including fitness, domestic participation and performance reviews, will also be introduced.
Naqvi added that the PCB remains committed to protecting Test cricket while adapting to the growing influence of franchise leagues around the world.
He also addressed reports linking Younis Khan and Mohammad Hafeez with coaching roles, saying no official appointments had been confirmed.
The PCB chief said he remains in contact with former players and will seek input from all stakeholders to help improve Pakistan cricket.
