Former Pakistan pacer says his international chapter is over after gaining British local status in English domestic cricket.

Mohammad Amir has ended speculation over a possible return to Pakistan’s national team ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup, saying his chapter with the country’s international side is now closed. The left-arm pacer, who retired from international cricket in December 2024, recently acquired British citizenship and is now eligible to play as a local in English domestic competitions.
Amir explained that players registered as locals in competitions such as the County Championship and The Hundred must sign an agreement stating they cannot represent another country as a local player. “I am a British local now. So, the Pakistan chapter I had before is now closed,” he said, effectively ending hopes of another comeback for Pakistan.
The 34-year-old remains a celebrated figure in Pakistan cricket, having played 36 Tests, 61 ODIs and 62 T20Is and played key roles in Pakistan’s 2009 T20 World Cup and 2017 Champions Trophy triumphs.
