The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) on Thursday issued notices to senior police officials in connection with the Chakwal shooting incident that resulted in the death of a 9-year-old Pakistani-Australian girl.

The hearing was conducted by Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan after a public interest petition, filed by Advocate Mian Asif Mahmood, was admitted following the removal of initial procedural objections.

The court directed notices to the Inspector General of Punjab Police, the Regional Police Officer Rawalpindi, and the District Police Officer Chakwal, seeking their formal responses.

According to the petition, Counter Crime Department (CCD) personnel allegedly opened indiscriminate fire, leading to the fatal shooting of the minor. It further claims that a Pakistani-Australian family was deliberately targeted during the incident.

The petition argues that the killing represents a grave violation of fundamental rights and stresses that the case is not limited to one family but concerns broader constitutional protections for citizens.

The petitioner has requested immediate protection for the affected family, a transparent judicial inquiry, and the formation of an independent judicial commission to investigate the incident.

The LHC has directed all respondents to submit their replies by the next hearing and continue proceedings on the matt
