The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division has issued detailed operational directives to all power distribution companies (DISCOs), the National Power Control Centre (NPCC), and the National Grid Company (NGC) to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during Muharram-ul-Haram 2026, especially on the 9th and 10th of Muharram (Ashura).
According to an official statement, the measures aim to guarantee public safety and the smooth provision of essential services during one of the most significant religious periods in the Islamic calendar.
All DISCOs have been instructed to coordinate closely with district administrations, law enforcement agencies, and Majalis committees to manage electricity needs for processions and religious gatherings. They have also been directed to obtain detailed schedules and routes of Majalis and processions to ensure proper planning.
Each DISCO will appoint focal persons at the operational and circle levels to maintain real-time coordination with local authorities and security agencies. Maintenance work on power lines and transformers supplying Imam Bargahs and gathering sites must also be completed before the 7th of Muharram.
The National Grid Company has been tasked with ensuring stable transmission of electricity to all DISCOs based on allocations determined by the NPCC, while contingency plans have been ordered to prevent forced load shedding during peak demand periods.
The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring reliable electricity supply throughout Muharram and urged all stakeholders to work in coordination for the peaceful observance of Ashura across the country.
