Canada fought back to secure a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina in their opening Group B match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Despite dominating possession and creating several chances, the co-hosts fell behind in the 21st minute when Bosnia’s Jovo Lukic scored against the run of play.
Canada struggled to break down Bosnia’s defence for much of the match. However, coach Jesse Marsch introduced Cyle Larin in the 76th minute, and the striker made an immediate impact.
Less than three minutes after coming on, Larin turned brilliantly inside the box and fired home the equaliser, earning Canada a crucial point.
The Southampton forward said he was determined to prove himself after starting on the bench and believed his performance showed he deserved more playing time.
Canada’s attack looked more dangerous after Larin’s introduction, and the result leaves the team well placed ahead of its next Group B match against Qatar in Vancouver on June 18.
Defender Alistair Johnston praised the home crowd for inspiring the comeback, saying the fans played a major role in helping Canada fight back.
The draw gives Canada its first point of the tournament and keeps its hopes of reaching the knockout stage firmly alive.
