Eve Samson has been named the 53rd Clerk of the House of Commons, becoming the first woman to hold one of Parliament’s most senior constitutional offices after decades of service in the House of Commons administration.
In her statement following the appointment, Samson described the role as an honour and highlighted the scale of responsibility involved in supporting the functioning of Parliament and its members.
She said the job requires extensive coordination across parliamentary services to ensure MPs are properly supported and the institution operates effectively.
