In a video message shared online, Rathee said the reel had received around 16 million views before access to it was restricted in the country.
“There were 16 million views on this reel. But the Modi government misused the IT Act and blocked it in India. This is the state of freedom of speech in the country today,” he said.
Rathee alleged that criticism of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being suppressed on digital platforms, while supportive content faced no restrictions.
“If you praise Modi, he will make your films run on big screens. But if you show the reality of Modi, even through comedy, he won’t even let your videos be on social media,” he claimed.
The YouTuber urged supporters to re-share the reel widely and said he intended to upload it again.
“These people don’t realise how powerful the public is. Let’s make them realise,” Rathee said, encouraging viewers to circulate the video across social media and WhatsApp.
The satirical reel reportedly featured a fictional exchange involving “Mr Modi” and a foreign dignitary, touching on international issues including the Ukraine-Russia war and the US-Iran conflict.
The incident has reignited debate in India over online censorship, freedom of expression, and the government’s use of digital regulations under the Information Technology Act.
