RAWALPINDI: A shooter who initiated a firing incident outside the Quran and Sunnah Academy, belonging to religious scholar Engineer Muhammad Ali Mirza in Jhelum, was killed by police on Sunday. The scholar was not hurt in the incident.

The News reported that the event took place while Engineer Mirza was giving his regular lecture at the academy. During the session, an unknown gunman suddenly began firing indiscriminately.

In the course of the assault, Constable Ahsan, who was providing security at the location, suffered a bullet wound to his leg. He was promptly moved to a local hospital for medical attention. There were no other injuries or fatalities reported.

A police spokesperson mentioned that a quick and efficient reaction from the officers led to the gunman being killed in a shootout, which prevented a more significant tragedy.

Regional Police Officer (RPO) of Rawalpindi, Syed Khalid Mahmood Hamdani, took immediate notice of the shooting and requested a comprehensive report. He further mandated a deep investigation and instructed officials to find any accomplices who may have supported the attack.

Law enforcement teams have started gathering evidence from the site, and security measures in the region have been significantly increased. Extra police units have been stationed at various sensitive points to maintain peace.

This incident follows previous threats against the scholar. In February of this year, he survived another attempt on his life when an individual tried to strike him during a photo session at the academy; that suspect was taken into custody.

The scholar was detained last year in August under the 3-MPO and was subsequently released on bail in December.
