The European Union says international donors have pledged about $1 billion to support Gaza’s early recovery efforts. The funding will help clear debris and restore basic services, including water and sanitation.

EU Mediterranean Commissioner Dubravka Suica said recovery depends on conditions that allow aid to reach people safely. She also stressed the need for Hamas’ disarmament to enable long-term reconstruction.

The donor meeting in Brussels included European governments, the European Commission, the European Investment Bank and Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa. Participants also reviewed Palestinian Authority reforms as part of continued international assistance.
