The US Army is moving ahead with plans to deploy small nuclear reactors at remote military installations to ensure a steady and reliable power supply.
Up to $2.2 billion is expected to be awarded to five companies tasked with developing and operating nuclear microreactors at selected US military bases.
The compact reactors are intended to reduce reliance on vulnerable power grids and fuel deliveries, particularly at isolated bases where maintaining uninterrupted electricity can be challenging.
The initiative reflects the Pentagon’s broader push to strengthen energy security at military facilities and explore nuclear technology as a dependable source of power for critical operations.
