Turkiye has condemned the reported attacks on two ships in the Black Sea, warning that civilian vessels continue to face serious dangers despite repeated diplomatic efforts to improve maritime security.
In a statement, the Turkish Foreign Ministry said attacks targeting or endangering civilian shipping are unacceptable and undermine stability in one of the world’s most important commercial waterways.
Ankara stressed that the safety of merchant vessels, crews and international trade routes must be protected and called for all parties to avoid actions that could escalate tensions in the Black Sea region.
The ministry said Turkiye has repeatedly raised concerns through diplomatic channels about the growing risks to civilian maritime traffic, particularly since the deterioration of regional security conditions linked to the war in Ukraine.
The Black Sea remains a critical corridor for the export of grain, energy products and other goods, making disruptions to shipping a matter of international economic concern.
Turkish officials reaffirmed their support for efforts aimed at reducing military risks at sea and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of civilian commercial vessels through Black Sea waters.
