A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Japan’s Kumamoto region, prompting tsunami alerts across parts of the Kyushu island.
Authorities issued warnings for areas including Nagasaki, Kagoshima, Fukuoka, Saga, Oita and Kumamoto city, urging residents near coastal zones to stay alert and follow safety instructions.
Emergency teams began assessing the impact of the earthquake, while officials monitored sea levels for possible tsunami activity. Residents were also advised to remain cautious due to the possibility of aftershocks following the strong tremor.
