South Korea has unveiled an ambitious future-technology initiative aimed at strengthening the country’s position in key strategic industries while setting a target of landing on the Moon by 2030.
The ‘Seven Major SEED’ programme will focus on areas including quantum computing, nuclear energy and other advanced technologies, as Seoul seeks to accelerate innovation and reduce reliance on foreign technologies.
The government plans to invest $7.1 billion in materials development, supporting research and production capabilities considered crucial to the country’s future industrial competitiveness.
The Moon-landing goal forms part of South Korea’s broader push to expand its capabilities in space exploration and high-tech industries, with officials seeking stronger coordination between government, researchers and the private sector.
