The National Assembly on Thursday suspended PTI MNA Iqbal Afridi for the remainder of the budget session after Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq accused him of misconduct with assembly staff, the DG Media and police personnel.
The suspension was approved through a majority vote after a motion was moved in the House. The Speaker also ordered that Afridi would not receive allowances or travel and daily allowances (TA/DA) during the suspension period.
The dispute followed repeated quorum calls by Afridi during the session, which led to interruptions in proceedings. Tensions escalated when the Speaker rejected another quorum call and warned the PTI lawmaker to leave the House or face removal by security personnel.
Afridi later left the assembly, while PTI leaders criticised the move and continued to oppose the government’s budget plans.
