A former Royal Marine who served alongside Prince Harry has made an emotional appeal for support to fund a bionic arm after losing a limb in Afghanistan.
Ben McBean, who lost an arm and leg in a landmine blast during the 2007–2008 Afghanistan deployment, said he is trying to raise funds to access advanced prosthetic technology abroad. He described the prosthetic as life-changing, allowing him to do everyday tasks such as holding objects and interacting with his children.
McBean, 39, served with Prince Harry during Harry’s first tour of duty and was later assisted by him during his recovery. He said he now feels he has “no alternative” but to rely on public donations to reach his goal.
Former SAS officer Andy McNab also expressed concern, saying it is troubling that injured veterans must rely on private fundraising for essential support and calling for urgent government attention to the issue.
