PM Shehbaz seeks expanded JICA cooperation in skills, minerals and SMEs

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has called for expanding cooperation with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in areas including skills development, minerals and small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

During discussions with JICA officials, the government highlighted opportunities to strengthen economic collaboration and attract greater Japanese support for Pakistan’s development priorities.

Minister Jam Kamal Cheema also invited JICA to participate in financing the Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway project alongside the Asian Development Bank (ADB).

Officials said the proposed cooperation aims to boost infrastructure, create employment opportunities and enhance Pakistan’s industrial and economic growth.

The government has been seeking increased international partnerships to support investment, technology transfer and long-term development initiatives.
