MANILA: At least 41 people have died after a magnitude-7.8 earthquake struck off Mindanao, with thousands displaced and more than 450 injured, disaster officials said.

The quake triggered landslides, building collapses and brief tsunami warnings before alerts were lifted.

In Sarangani Province, some areas remain cut off as damaged roads and a collapsed bridge restrict access. Ongoing aftershocks are slowing rescue work.

In General Santos City and nearby areas, hospitals have shifted patients outdoors after buildings were declared unsafe.

In Glan, dozens of patients are being treated outside damaged facilities, while rescue teams continue searching collapsed structures for survivors.

Authorities say rescue efforts are ongoing, but difficult conditions and infrastructure damage are hampering operations across the region.
