Pakistan has urged all parties to exercise restraint and give diplomacy “a little more chance” amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Addressing a UN Security Council briefing on non-proliferation, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the region is facing a fragile and dangerous situation.
He warned that recent developments highlight the risk of further escalation and stressed the urgent need to revive diplomatic efforts.
“The cycle of violence and instability must end,” he said, adding that continued conflict threatens both regional and global peace.
The ambassador said the recent escalation has also complicated efforts to address the Iran nuclear issue and has disrupted the work of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
He said Pakistan supports resolving all outstanding disputes, including the Iran nuclear programme, through dialogue and peaceful negotiations.
Ambassador Iftikhar added that Pakistan has been engaging with regional and global partners to support de-escalation and encourage dialogue between conflicting sides.
He said Islamabad’s efforts aim to reduce tensions, save lives and create space for meaningful negotiations.
He also urged all parties to avoid actions that could undermine ongoing diplomatic initiatives, saying diplomacy remains the only viable path forward.
Concluding his statement, the envoy called on the international community to continue pursuing peaceful solutions and to give diplomacy every possible chance to succeed.
