Pakistani climber Asma Mushtaq dies after summiting Spantik

Mountaineer reaches summit safely before losing her life during descent, says Alpine Club.

Pakistani mountaineer Asma Mushtaq has died while descending from the summit of Spantik, one of Pakistan’s most challenging high-altitude peaks.

According to the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Mushtaq successfully reached the summit in good health before beginning her descent. She later encountered difficulties while coming down from the mountain.

Rescue efforts were launched after the climber lost contact, but she could not be brought back safely. Her death is a tragic setback for Pakistan’s mountaineering community.

Spantik, also known as Golden Peak, is located in Gilgit-Baltistan and attracts climbers from around the world because of its demanding terrain and extreme altitude.
