Meta has launched a new artificial intelligence model called Muse Glimmer, the latest step in CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s push for an open-weight AI ecosystem.

Unlike the largest frontier models developed by rival companies, Muse Glimmer is considerably smaller and is designed specifically for agentic tasks that involve carrying out actions, managing workflows and assisting with routine digital operations.

Meta said the model is intended to be more efficient and easier to deploy across a range of devices and applications, allowing developers to build AI agents without the computing demands required by much larger systems.

The launch reflects Zuckerberg’s broader strategy of promoting open-weight AI models, which allow developers and researchers greater access to model parameters compared with fully closed commercial systems.

Industry analysts say the move highlights a growing divide in the AI race, with some companies focusing on ever-larger general-purpose models while others pursue smaller, task-focused systems that can power autonomous AI assistants and business automation tools more efficiently.
