Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has ordered strict action against transport operators involved in overcharging passengers ahead of Eidul Azha.

She directed deputy commissioners and police officials across the province to carry out inspections of buses and bus terminals to ensure public safety and fair fares during the holiday rush.

The chief minister instructed authorities to make sure official fare lists are clearly displayed inside buses and at bus stands so passengers can easily check ticket prices.

Transport operators found charging extra fares may face cancellation of route permits and terminal licenses. She also ordered strict action against overloading and overcrowding in public transport vehicles.

Maryam Nawaz further directed officials to remove buses without valid fitness certificates from the roads to reduce the risk of accidents during Eid travel.

To improve passenger facilities, she also ordered the provision of clean drinking water at bus stations across Punjab.

The provincial Transport Department has launched helpline 1071 for citizens to report complaints related to overcharging and transport violations.
