Dhruv Jurel produced an impressive 95, narrowly missing out on a maiden century, while Rishabh Pant contributed a valuable 63 to keep the innings moving.
The pair helped India build a commanding total and maintain pressure on their opponents as the innings progressed.
Persistent rain then halted play, leaving India firmly in control and with an opportunity to push towards a massive first-innings score when action resumes.
