Israeli strikes on south Lebanon kill 19 amid continued cross-border clashes

Israeli airstrikes on southern Lebanon on Tuesday killed at least 19 people and wounded dozens more, according to Lebanon’s health ministry, as cross-border clashes with Hezbollah continued despite a declared ceasefire in the conflict.

The ministry said one strike on the town of Deir Qanun al-Nahr in the Tyre district killed 10 people, including three children and three women, describing the attack as a “massacre.” Separate strikes across southern areas killed nine more people and injured 29 others.

Buildings in Tyre and Nabatieh provinces were also damaged, with residential structures and shops collapsing or catching fire following the bombardments, according to local reports and AFP images.

Israel said it had issued evacuation warnings for multiple towns ahead of the strikes and claimed it was targeting Hezbollah positions. However, one of the affected areas was not included in the warnings.

Hezbollah said its fighters engaged Israeli troops advancing near the border town of Haddatha and claimed to have destroyed an Israeli tank, while also reporting attacks on Israeli positions and air defence systems.

The escalation comes amid ongoing tensions despite a ceasefire declared in April, with both sides continuing to accuse each other of violations and launching periodic strikes across the border.
