Israel’s military has acknowledged that its troops fired on a car carrying five-year-old Palestinian girl Hind Rajab and her family in Gaza in 2024, reversing earlier claims that its forces were not present in the area.

Hind was trapped inside the vehicle after the attack and made a desperate call for help to the Palestinian Red Crescent. She was later found dead alongside family members, while two paramedics who had been sent to rescue her were also killed.

The Israeli military has now ordered a criminal investigation into the incident, citing alleged failures in coordinating the movement of the Red Crescent ambulance. The case had drawn widespread international attention and renewed calls for accountability.

The admission marks a significant reversal nearly two years after Hind’s death, which became a symbol of the suffering of children and civilians caught in the Gaza war.
