A senior Iranian official told Reuters that a draft memorandum of understanding with the United States includes wide-ranging provisions on nuclear restrictions, sanctions relief and energy cooperation.

According to the official, Iran would commit to not producing or acquiring nuclear weapons under the agreement and would temporarily freeze uranium enrichment while broader negotiations continue.

The draft reportedly allows Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping, while the United States would lift its naval blockade on Iranian ports.

Washington would also refrain from imposing new sanctions until a final agreement is reached and would waive existing oil sanctions for a limited period to allow Iranian exports to resume.

The proposal includes the potential release of around $25 billion in frozen Iranian assets through financial mechanisms and regional arrangements.

Both sides would continue negotiating a comprehensive deal over a 60-day period, during which key issues such as uranium stockpiles, enrichment limits and verification mechanisms would be finalised.

The Iranian official said a reconstruction and development framework for Iran could also be developed with US and regional partners as part of the broader agreement.
