FIFA has praised recent progress in Pakistan football, saying the sport is moving in the right direction while stressing the need for urgent governance reforms.
The remarks were made during a press briefing in Islamabad by FIFA Head of Member Associations Governance Rolf Tanner.
He said discussions with stakeholders highlighted the need for modern constitutional reforms within the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF).
Tanner added that improved governance structures and stakeholder empowerment are essential to align Pakistan football with global standards.
PFF President Syed Mohsen Gilani said reforms are necessary as the federation’s constitution has not been updated significantly since 2013.
He also said the proposed changes aim to improve representation, including greater inclusion of women in decision-making.
The PFF further plans to strengthen domestic football and launch a national football league in the near future.
