US authorities have accused Chinese hackers of carrying out a broad cyber operation targeting major American government and institutional networks.
FBI Director Kash Patel said investigators disrupted a global botnet that had allegedly been used by Chinese cyber actors to target US infrastructure and sensitive systems.
The operation reportedly affected a wide range of organisations, including the Justice Department, NASA, Federal Reserve and US Senate, raising fresh concerns over the scale and sophistication of state-linked cyber threats.
US officials said the disruption was part of a wider effort to protect critical infrastructure and prevent further attacks as Washington continues to warn about cyber threats linked to China.
