China’s FAST telescope maps hidden clues to the universe’s evolution

China’s Five-hundred-meter Aperture Spherical Telescope (FAST) has helped scientists uncover new clues about how the universe has evolved over billions of years.

Working alongside the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI), researchers analysed data from around 2.5 million galaxies to trace neutral hydrogen across the cosmos.

The study provides an unprecedented level of precision in mapping this key element, which plays an important role in understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies.

Scientists say the findings could improve our understanding of large-scale cosmic structures and provide new insights into the processes that have shaped the universe over time.
