China has vowed to protect its “legitimate rights and interests” after the United States threatened sanctions against countries that continue trading with Iran.
Beijing’s response comes as the Trump administration steps up efforts to isolate Tehran economically and targets Iran’s trading partners as part of its broader sanctions campaign.
Chinese officials have criticised Washington’s use of unilateral sanctions, maintaining that normal economic and trade cooperation with Iran should not be subject to external pressure.
The latest dispute could further strain US-China relations as Washington seeks greater international support for its economic campaign against Tehran.
