TORONTO: Thick wildfire smoke blanketed Toronto as deteriorating air quality raised health concerns across Canada and the United States.

Environment Canada reported an Air Quality Health Index reading of 10+, classified as “very high risk.”

Officials urged residents to limit outdoor activities and take precautions against smoke exposure.

The smoke is also expected to affect several cities across the northeastern United States.

Health authorities warned that vulnerable groups face a greater risk from poor air quality.

Wildfires continue to fuel hazardous conditions across parts of Canada.
