Bangladesh has asked **India to clarify its position regarding a planned speech in New Delhi by former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, amid growing diplomatic sensitivity over her activities abroad.
A Bangladeshi minister said Dhaka does not want India-Bangladesh relations to be harmed by statements from “fugitive accused individuals”, signalling concern that the event could complicate ties between the two neighbouring countries.
The request comes as Bangladesh’s interim authorities continue pursuing legal and political actions related to former officials of Hasina’s administration following the political upheaval that led to her departure from office.
India has not yet publicly commented on the request for clarification.
The issue is being closely watched because India and Bangladesh maintain extensive cooperation in trade, connectivity, security and regional diplomacy, making any public dispute involving a former Bangladeshi leader potentially significant for bilateral relations.
Analysts say both governments are likely to try to prevent the controversy from escalating into a broader diplomatic confrontation, given the strategic importance of their relationship.
