Islamabad launches quiet diplomatic efforts to bridge differences between eastern and western Libyan authorities.

Pakistan has reportedly begun behind-the-scenes diplomatic efforts to help resolve differences between Libya’s eastern and western power centres, according to a British media report citing Pakistani sources. The move comes as international efforts continue to find a political solution to Libya’s long-running divisions following the fall of Muammar Gaddafi’s government in 2011.
Sources said Pakistan’s mediation efforts began late last year after both Libyan factions sought Islamabad’s involvement. The United States is reportedly aware of the process, while Saudi Arabia is also said to support Pakistan’s role.
A proposed reunification plan reportedly includes a 36-month transitional power-sharing arrangement aimed at creating a joint governing structure. Analysts say Pakistan’s influence in Libya is smaller compared with countries such as the US, Turkey, Egypt, and the UAE, but Islamabad’s relations with both sides could help support dialogue and negotiations.
