Actor Hajra Yamin has spoken about the growing overlap between actors and social media influencers, saying the distinction between the two professions is rapidly fading.
In an interview, she stressed that actors and influencers serve different roles, saying, “Actors are not influencers, and influencers are influencers. We cannot do their job.” However, she acknowledged that the rise of social media has created a crossover, with many actors now engaging in brand promotions while some influencers transition into acting.
Yamin noted that the shift has turned personal lives into public content, often leading to heightened scrutiny. She said the online environment has become highly reactive, adding that social media often resembles a “mob mentality,” where public figures are criticised regardless of whether they choose to speak on issues.
She also highlighted the need for responsibility on both sides, saying that audiences and public figures must be more mindful of their behaviour and reactions online.
Beyond the discussion on social media culture, Yamin reflected on her professional journey, saying she carefully selects projects based on character depth and directorial vision. She expressed strong respect for directors and said constructive criticism is essential for an actor’s growth.
The actor also praised the increasing trend of ensemble storytelling in the industry, saying it allows all characters to have equal importance within a narrative.
