Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has said that wheat is available in abundance across the province, assuring that sufficient stocks are present to meet public demand.
She made the remarks while chairing a high-level meeting on wheat, agriculture, food safety, and consumer protection in Lahore.
The Chief Minister said that modern and advanced systems are being introduced to ensure effective monitoring of wheat supply and prices. She added that an AI-based live dashboard will be set up to track wheat stocks, demand, and distribution in real time.
Maryam Nawaz said that licensed wheat aggregators and stockers will be allowed to legally store wheat, but directed that all stock must be properly declared under relevant regulations. She warned that strict action would be taken against those failing to comply with stock declaration rules under the Anti-Hoarding Act.
She also emphasized maintaining stability in flour, bread, and naan prices across Punjab and directed officials to ensure easy access to affordable food for the public.
The Chief Minister further instructed authorities to upgrade and revamp the food department in line with modern governance standards and ensure transparent monitoring of the wheat supply chain.
Officials briefed the meeting that Punjab has recorded a wheat production of over 22 million metric tons this year, describing the output as strong and sufficient for provincial needs.
