Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Asian Development Bank Vice President Yingming Yang discussed accelerating the long-awaited Main Line-1 (ML-1) railway project, with both sides emphasising the need for an early groundbreaking on the strategic infrastructure scheme.
During the meeting, the prime minister said Pakistan had successfully navigated economic challenges through fiscal discipline, structural reforms and improvements in governance, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustaining the reform agenda.
The two sides also reviewed ongoing cooperation between Pakistan and the ADB, particularly in infrastructure, economic development and investment initiatives aimed at supporting long-term growth.
The ML-1 project, one of Pakistan’s largest railway modernisation plans, is expected to enhance connectivity, improve freight and passenger transport, and strengthen the country’s transport network once construction begins.
