The US Department of State has announced the phased closure of its Consulate General in Peshawar, citing a commitment to the safety of diplomatic personnel and more efficient resource management.
In an official statement, the department said responsibilities for diplomatic engagement in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be shifted to the US Embassy in Islamabad.
Despite the move, Washington emphasised that its policy priorities in Pakistan remain unchanged. “While our physical presence in Peshawar is changing, the Administration’s policy priorities in Pakistan remain steadfast,” the statement said.
The US added that it would continue engaging with officials and communities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to strengthen economic ties, promote regional security, and advance mutual interests.
The State Department also reaffirmed that the US Mission to Pakistan will maintain its diplomatic work through its remaining posts in Islamabad, Karachi, and Lahore, underscoring its continued commitment to bilateral relations.
