UN Secretary-General António Guterres has condemned recent Israeli strikes on Beirut, calling for maximum restraint from all parties.

In a post on X, he said the strikes occurred despite ongoing ceasefire efforts and at a sensitive diplomatic moment involving reported US–Iran negotiations.

Guterres urged continued diplomatic engagement and warned of wider consequences from escalating violence.

He also reiterated support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and called for a comprehensive ceasefire in the region.

The condemnation follows renewed Israeli strikes in Beirut’s southern suburbs, reportedly targeting Hezbollah-linked areas.

Israel has said the attacks were in response to rocket fire from Hezbollah, while Lebanon reported civilian areas were hit.

The escalation comes amid fragile ceasefire arrangements and parallel diplomatic talks involving the United States and Iran.
