Son Heung-min scored twice as South Korea national football team recorded a dominant 5–0 victory over Trinidad and Tobago in a World Cup warm-up friendly.
The 33-year-old opened the scoring with a close-range finish in the 40th minute before converting a penalty just three minutes later to double his side’s lead.
Hwang Hee-chan also found the net, while substitute Cho Gue-sung added two second-half goals to complete the comfortable win.
Son, who has been under scrutiny due to a goal drought at club level, said the result was important for building team confidence ahead of the World Cup.
“It’s not easy to win 5–0 regardless of the opponent,” he said, praising the team’s overall performance and focus.
With his brace, Son moved to 56 international goals, closing in on South Korea’s all-time scoring record held by Cha Bum-kun.
South Korea will play further friendlies before beginning their World Cup campaign against the Czech Republic in Guadalajara on June 11.
