Punjab unveils Rs5.3tr ‘budget of hope’ without new taxes

CM Maryam says FY27 budget focuses on relief, development and public welfare through provincial resources.

Punjab Finance Minister Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman on Tuesday presented a Rs5.335 trillion budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year in the provincial assembly.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz described it as a “budget of hope”, saying it was prepared without imposing any new taxes on the public.

She said the budget aims to promote welfare, development and prosperity while providing maximum relief despite economic challenges and global pressures.

Maryam added that the government had worked to minimise the financial burden on citizens while protecting public interests.

The chief minister also directed the Punjab Revenue Authority to improve revenue collection and strengthen the province’s financial position.

She praised the efforts of cabinet members and officials involved in drafting the budget and expressed confidence that it would meet the expectations of the people.
